Language preferences

Choose a server language during first-time setup and a separate dashboard language for your own account.

Updated October 21, 20262 min read

Getting started

1

Choose the server language

When an administrator first opens a server, NightCrew asks for a language. Save and continue to open the dashboard. Existing module choices and saved messages stay unchanged.

2

Change it later

Open Settings → Language preferences to change the server default. Language choices are available on every plan.

3

Choose your own dashboard language

Use the Language link in the sidebar. This changes only your account, across your dashboards. Use server language follows the selected server instead.

4

Automatic message translation

Translate new member messages into the server language in all accessible text channels and threads. Originals stay unchanged. Your personal dashboard language does not change the translation target.

5

Understand translation coverage

Page details, navigation, form help, chart captions, module descriptions, and guide text use the selected language. Supported bot replies use the same translation catalogs. New phrases without a translation fall back to English. Saved messages, application answers, role names, and other custom content are never automatically translated.

Settings reference

Use this reference when you need to check what a setting does.

Server language

Default for supported public bot messages and dashboards without a personal override.

Dashboard language

Your own account preference. An empty selection follows the current server.

English fallback

Missing catalog entries retain their English system text. Custom saved content is not translated.

How it works

Here’s what happens once you’ve finished setup.

  1. 1
    Administrator

Selects a server language in the first-time setup screen.

  2. 2
    Staff member

Optionally chooses a private dashboard override.

  3. 3
    NightCrew

Uses each request or event’s own language without changing content or another server.

Example

EXAMPLE
Bilingual staff

Use Spanish for the server and English for one staff account’s dashboard. Other members keep the server default unless they choose their own.

Tips

i

Public bot messages use the server language; supported private command replies use your saved language or your Discord language.

i

Self-hosted AI must be configured before enabling message translation.

i

Limits: 20 messages per server and 5 per member each minute. Busy, uncertain, and same-language messages are skipped. Translations may contain mistakes.

Troubleshooting

Some text is English

That phrase has no catalog translation yet. It falls back to English instead of showing an empty label.

The wrong server changed

Confirm the server selector before changing its language; a personal dashboard override is separate.
