Music
Play music in a voice channel, build a shared queue, and control playback from Discord or the dashboard.
Getting started
Enable Music
Open Music from the sidebar and turn on the module at the top of the page. Grant NightCrew View Channel, Connect, and Speak in a standard voice channel. Stage channels are not supported.
Start listening
Join voice and use /play with a title or supported HTTPS music link. Select SoundCloud, YouTube, or Spotify with the source option or dashboard search selector. SoundCloud remains the default. Spotify tracks use matching audio from YouTube or SoundCloud; links always use their own service.
Manage the session
Use the now-playing controls and queue in Music. Dashboard actions report queued first, then success or failure after the bot processes them. Managers can control remotely; other listeners must be in NightCrew's voice channel.
Choose your listening tools
Free includes 2 saved playlists, a 50-track queue, play/pause/resume, skip, vote skip, volume, seek, shuffle, repeat, and queue editing. Premium includes 500 tracks, 25 server-shared playlists, audio filters, autoplay, a DJ role, 24/7 voice, and recovery. Custom Bot uses the same Premium features with its own identity.
Use the dashboard controls
Playback controls and the queue are at the top of Music. Open playlists, settings, or history when you need them. Settings save automatically; playback buttons act when you click them.
For self-hosted bots
The bot operator needs to run Lavalink 4.2 or newer with DAVE support. Use the example in deploy/music/application.yml.example and set MUSIC_NODE_URL and MUSIC_NODE_PASSWORD on the NightCrew host. For Spotify search, set SPOTIFY_CLIENT_ID and SPOTIFY_CLIENT_SECRET on the audio host. Restart NightCrew and any dedicated custom bot processes after changing the connection settings.
Settings reference
Use this reference when you need to check what a setting does.
1–100; applied on joining voice.
Premium; restricts controls to a server role. Other listeners can still request songs and vote to skip.
Premium; searches for unplayed tracks by the last artist when the queue ends.
Premium; stays connected while the bot and audio service are online.
Premium; restores saved tracks and position after reconnecting when listeners are present, or with 24/7 enabled.
Premium; Off, Bass boost, Nightcore, or Vaporwave.
Premium; up to 25 lists shared within the selected server. DJs or managers manage them.
How it works
Here’s what happens once you’ve finished setup.
- 1Listener
Joins voice and requests songs or votes to skip.
- 2DJ
Controls playback from the listening room.
- 3Manager
Chooses a voice channel and operates remotely from the dashboard.
Example
Join a standard voice channel, add a SoundCloud track, verify pause/resume and volume, then save the queue as a Premium playlist.
Permissions
- View Channel
- Connect
- Speak
- Send Messages and Embed Links for the player card
- Manage Server for remote control; configured DJ role for advanced controls

One voice channel per server; many servers can listen independently.
If you host NightCrew yourself, deploy/music/README.md covers the audio service setup and playback checks.
No music is downloaded or stored on the dashboard. Saved queues hold track metadata and references.
Things to know
Changing plans retains playlists and preferences; paid settings become inactive on Free.
If music cuts out, try another track and source. If several listeners hear the same problem, check the audio host’s console and connection.
Troubleshooting
Check MUSIC_NODE_URL/password, host reachability, Lavalink 4.2+, and source configuration. Credentials are only stored on the host.
The bot is offline or busy. Actions expire after 90 seconds; inspect playback before retrying.
Try a song title or a supported source. Provider availability depends on the node and plugins.
At least half of the non-bot listeners must vote; each listener counts once.
On Free, NightCrew leaves after three idle minutes. If it disconnects during a song, check voice permissions and the audio service, then join and try playing again.
