Reaction Roles

Let members choose their own roles using buttons or a dropdown.

Updated October 21, 20261 min read

Getting started

1

Prepare roles

Create Discord roles and place NightCrew above them.

2

Create role options

Add a label, emoji, color, description, and optional access rules.

3

Choose a layout

Publish up to 25 options as color-coded buttons or one compact dropdown.

4

Test hierarchy

Test as a normal member and review Recent role activity for permission failures.

Settings reference

Use this reference when you need to check what a setting does.

Role

Existing Discord role assigned by the option.

Label

Member-facing name on the panel.

Emoji

Unicode or server emoji displayed beside the choice.

Exclusive group

Options that replace one another, such as color roles.

Access rules

Optional required or blocked Discord role.

Selection limit

Maximum roles a member can hold from one panel; zero is unlimited.

How it works

Here’s what happens once you’ve finished setup.

  1. 1
    Member

Clicks a button or chooses dropdown options.

  2. 2
    NightCrew

Checks the server, role, requirements, block rules, limits, and hierarchy.

  3. 3
    Toggle

Adds the role when absent or removes it when already assigned.

  4. 4
    Audit

Records privacy-conscious success and failure activity for staff.

Example

EXAMPLE

Troubleshooting

Role does nothing

Move NightCrew above it and grant Manage Roles.

Emoji is broken

Use a Unicode emoji or a server emoji NightCrew can access.

Old panel fails after edits

Republish when replacing roles or making structural panel changes.
